Their latest rebrand provided the perfect opportunity to give this online magazine a fresh, new look.
We helped Idaho Falls Magazine refresh the design of their website with their new logo and colors while updating it for a more user-friendly and modern experience. The idea with this refresh was to really let their images and video stand out to capture visitors’ attention. So we changed their previous “magazine style” layout to a full-width rotating slideshow on their homepage.
We also streamlined the flow of the header to make it easier for users to navigate the website.
As a magazine brand in a digital market, we had to find a clean layout that accommodated ads throughout the site. So any page where articles are listed in a category, or on the homepage, the sections are all the exact same width and height at all times to allow for that exact size of ad to fit in those slots without muddying up the look and layout of the page. This setup allows the ads to be more seamless with the content (instead of obnoxious popups) so the user doesn’t have to feel bombarded by ads and has a better experience.
To help with this new design, we did need to incorporate a little extra development work to accommodate these new styles. On the homepage banner, we added the ability for Idaho Falls Magazine’s team to use a video or an image for a more dynamic experience.
We also added new capabilities for the content team to feature specific articles more prominently on the site. They can mark any given article as “featured” and the five most recently published “featured” articles will be displayed in the homepage banner slider.
